Órgano bilobulado con corteza y médula donde maduran los linfocitos T.

Interpretación

En el timo los linfocitos T aprenden a reconocer lo propio: selección positiva (útiles) y negativa (elimina autorreactivos).

Perla clínica

Involuciona con la edad. Su ausencia (síndrome de DiGeorge) causa déficit de linfocitos T e infecciones graves. La miastenia se asocia a timoma.
