Interpretación

La ATP sintasa convierte la energía del gradiente electroquímico en energía química (ATP): quimiosmosis.

Perla clínica

Los desacoplantes (como la termogenina de la grasa parda o el 2,4-dinitrofenol) disipan el gradiente como calor sin generar ATP. El oligomicina bloquea la ATP sintasa.
